The photos were taken during Jun's shoot for the fashion magazine Vogue. The post went up on her 45th birthday, accompanied by a short celebratory message from the agency: "For Gianna jun's Birthday, today is all about her." The caption used her English name, Gianna Jun.

Jun was born in 1981. In 2012, she married Choi Joon-hyuk, CEO of Alpha Asset Management. Choi is the grandson, on his mother's side, of the late Lee Young-hee, a renowned designer of hanbok, or traditional Korean clothing. The couple has two sons.
